Play mode and
the visualizer

The play mode is a dedicated viewer to playback the music you have created. It has two modes, the default being a 3D view where notes are represented with “capsules”. You can switch between this 3D view and the 2D view, which uses the same renderer as the editor canvas.

▲ A little piano piece I wrote in Clavierist, visualized in the 3D play mode. Some post-processing was done in Final Cut Pro to give it a more dreamy look.

When you are editing a composition, you can preview the play mode by opening the Visualizer panel, from which you can adjust various settings for the visualization including adding visual effects such as bloom, film grain and vignette.

To open a composition in play mode, press P to open the Command Palette and choose Open in play mode. You can also access the Command Palette from the icon at the top right corner.

While you are in play mode, there will be an option in the Command Palette to Hide UI(H). You might find this useful if you are planning to record a video of the music visualization.

In the 3D view mode, you can either scroll or drag to control the progress. Camera controls are not displayed in UI, although you can:

  • press and scroll to zoom in / out
  • press and drag to rotate the camera
  • press and drag to move the camera
  • double click to reset the camera back to its default position
