Once you have completed your shiny new piece of music, you have a few options to share it with others which are listed on the page.
🎉 Finished writing a piece?
Congratulations! I would love to have a listen – if you are happy to share, please shoot over an email.
Export and share options
Use the Share panel or the Command palette to export your composition.
Sharing a direct link
You can open the Share panel and turn on “Allow public read access”. This is suitable if you only used built-in instruments. You can share the link to your composition directly with your friends, or the whole internet.
Opening up read access will allow anyone with the link to visit your composition.
Visitors are not allowed to export your composition as JSON or MIDI.
Exporting the composition
- Export as JSON: your composition represented in a JSON file. This file can then be imported back into Clavierist. You can find the import buttons on the top right corner of your Workshop homepage.
- Export as MIDI: useful for importing your music into other MIDI-supported software. For example, processing it further in a traditional DAW. Note that microtonal notes are not supported in exports and will be snapped to nearest MIDI numbers.
- Export as image: export your composition as a static image in PNG format.
- Export as vector image: export your composition as a static image in SVG format. You can freely scale or recolor the SVG image in supported apps such as Figma or Adobe Illustrator.
Tip: export a segment of music as MIDI
Select a few notes in your composition and right click – you should see an option to export the segment as MIDI.
There are currently no built-in video/audio rendering capabilities – consider using a screen/audio recording tool to achieve this for now. You can open the composition in play mode and hide the UI by pressing ⌘⇧H.
Importing JSON or MIDI
Navigate to the Workshop page and you will see the import options in the page header.
As mentioned above, you can import JSON files exported from Clavierist which guarantees full editability. Note that thumbnails are not imported and will only be generated after the first save.
Basic support has been added for importing MIDI files. Some of the current limitations:
- Instruments selected in the MIDI file will not be mapped correctly.
- Since all notes are recorded in their actual duration in seconds, they will not snap to the grid in Clavierist. Automatic bar (measure) management is turned off; you can turn it back on in the Composition panel.
- BPM is always 60 beats per second.
